Life is full of surprises, isn’t it? Two years ago, while we were living on Virgin Gorda, if you were to tell me that in a few years I would be living in Vermont, I would not believe you. But here I am, typing this in my new home located in Manchester, Vermont. I am sure you can guess, the process of getting here was not an easy one. These kinds of life decisions are never easy. Moving, in and of itself is hard, especially if you think about the fact that we moved 3 times since we left the Caribbean. However, after all that is said and done, I cannot be happier to be here.
Our small town, Manchester is located in the south of Vermont. While it is a small town, it is conveniently located within three and a half hours driving distance from big cities like Boston, Montreal, and New York City. Most people come to Manchester for skiing, golfing, shopping, fly-fishing, and simply for its breathtaking beauty. Plus, the sugaring season and the horse show are a few of the most popular activities that everyone talks about.
The First Month At The Equinox Resort
I came to Manchester on February 8th. Dwight was already here and had started working at his new job at the Equinox Resort as the Director of Operations. While at the hotel, I took the next three weeks off and just enjoyed my time staying at a beautiful resort and looking for a place to live.
Having stayed in many nice hotels in my lifetime as the wife of an hotelier (and an ex-hotelier myself), Equinox Resort didn’t disappoint. From their luxurious spa, beautiful restaurants, to the incredible staff, I was truly pampered during my stay. If you ever visit our small town, be sure to check out this historical hotel.
Our New Home
Finding a home was much quicker than we thought, mainly because there were not many places available. We were connected with a real estate agent prior to leaving Atlanta, who later showed us a few places. Luckily, most houses in our budget were close to the hotel making Dwight’s commute easy and quick. After a few days of searching, we ended up choosing the first place we saw. Built in the 80s, our new house has gorgeous backyard, 3-bedrooms, and large windows all over the house.
One of the must-haves on our list was to have a place that gets ample natural daylight. We decided that it would help me continue my business if I had enough space to shoot videos and photographs. Luckily, this house provided us with exactly what we needed. After years of shooting and cooking in small spaces, I am thrilled to have a studio of my own.
The kitchen is a little small, but it is one that opens to the living room so it blends in nicely. Plus, it has a cute little window. Though it is a small one, I love the fact that I can see outside and have some natural light coming in while I am cooking. We turned one of the bedrooms into a pantry/workspace for Dwight. It is conveniently located across from the kitchen making it so easy to keep things within arm-reach and organized.
Finally, we were told that there is a hike in the back of the house that ends up in the frozen pond you see in the photo below. Since it is still very cold and snowy, we have yet to discover the hiking around our house. But I cannot wait for the weather to warm up to spend more time outdoors and enjoy all the hiking available around the town.
Everyone I meet ask me how long we will be here. I do not know the answer to that question. But what I know is that I am so happy to be here and cannot wait to see what has Vermont and our life here has in store for us.
